Mega Jump is a freemium game (free to download, but has additional in-game sales) originally intended for the iPhone. It is one of those many many clones of the jump-as-high-as-you-can games but this game is so cute and executes the old and used concept so well, it is like breathing new life to casual gaming.
The objective of the game is to jump higher and higher into the air by jumping onto coins and platforms. Powerups are offered in the game like the balloon that inflates your character, Redmond, an umbrella that helps you fall slower and (my favorite) the fire that sours the character really high into the air, with fire sprouting from his behind (a hot sauce would be a much better looking powerup sprite though :p). Much like any other game of the game type of genre, the game ends when you fall.
I believe that the tilt control was originally intended to be played one-hand, but it does, suprisingly play really good too when enlarged 2x and played with two hands on the iPad, much like playing Mario Kart with a Wii. It does take time to learn how much tilt is enough to maneuver the character, but after the learning curve, you will find out that the control is ideally easy and responds well to tilting — sometimes too easy.

The in game currency are premium coins called MP, and are gained through collecting 100 coins in game, watching adverts in the application or purchasing them directly. The MP coins unlock special power-ups and power-up upgrades, more character aside from Redmond (panda FTW) and unlocking wall papers. I really like the fact that the game does not chuck the adverts into your throat while playing and the in-game selling is obvious, but not intrusive.
The game, in terms of graphics and sounds, is presented in a goofy, toonish, childish manner, and I feel that it adds more appeal to the game, giving a laidback, fun look. And it is.
One of the only cons I see in this game is the lack of an HD version. Com’on, for a casual game this good, I, as an iPad user would not mind paying a buck upfront.
However, as we wait for the iPad version of the game, lets use the iPhone app. It is free. Download now. You know you want to.
